India gets its first Chief Justice from Northeast

Justice Ranjan Gogoi has been appointed as the 46th Chief Justice of India by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind appointed. Gogoi will succeed Justice Dipak Misra and join office on October 3. Justice Gogoi, who is from Assam, will be the first Chief Justice of India from the Northeast and the second most senior judge in the apex court. His name was proposed by the CJI’s office on September 1.
