FDA approves 1st drug to treat smallpox

To treat smallpox, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first drug to treat smallpox. The FDA took this initiative keeping bioterror attack in mind as the drug was approved nearly after 40 years since the disease eradicated from the world but smallpox virus could be used as a bioweapon and to address the risk of bioterrorism this is the first step towards development and approval of countermeasures.
