IAF selects 12 national highways for emergency landing

The Indian Air force has cleared 12 national highways (NHs) as emergency landing airstrips that will enable rescue operation teams to reach affected areas easily, an official said. Although the initial proposal was to clear 21 NHs to airstrips, 12 have been cleared. These include the ones connecting Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chattisgarh. Planning is such that within a short duration, aircraft will be ready to land during a natural calamity.
