Indira Gandhi's 1975 emergency was 'phoney': Arun Jaitley

In a note reflecting on the Emergency in 1975, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has expressed his disapproval for then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's political strategy. Jaitley wrote that the 'phoney' emergency was applied only to show that Gandhi was indispensable to India. He also called her to rule a constitutional dictatorship and accused her of taking a disastrous economy path that led to even greater inflation.
