UK charges victims of forced marriages overseas for repatriation

Charities have criticised UK Foreign Office after it was revealed that they asked women rescued from forced marriages overseas to pay back the living costs and airfare spent on getting them back to the UK. Many of the 82 victims of forced marriage repatriated in 2016-17 had to give up their passports as a condition of the loan. Charities have said that these vulnerable women need protection instead of destitution.
