US TV viewership has dropped by 44% for FIFA World Cup 2018

Early morning broadcasts and switch to other digital mediums have contributed to a decline in TV viewership of FIFA World Cup. US-based networks Fox and NBC Universal’s Telemundo, who are first time World Cup broadcasters are faring badly due to a drop of 44% in US viewership as compared to 2014's World Cup. An average of 1.98 million viewers has watched the games on Fox as compared to 3.55 million on ESPN in 2014.
