WHO head applauds elimination of Malaria in Paraguay, hopeful for other countries

45 years after Cuba was declared Malaria free in the Americas, Paraguay has achieved the same status. The WHO head certified Paraguay as Malaria free and asserted the possibility of eliminating the mosquito-borne disease in other countries. This success story comes as a promising change after the recent resurgence in Malaria cases. Before Paraguay, Sri Lanka was the last country to be declared Malaria free in 2016.
